Genesis at Lucas

We are pleased to announce that Genesis will now host our Annual Lecture Series at our home office, Genesis at Lucas. Before you attend one of our lectures, learn more about our state-of-the-art facility and the wonderful services we offer at no cost!

Join us for the 2025 Lecture Series as we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support. For four decades, Genesis has provided life-saving safety, immediate shelter and critical, ongoing support for women and children in our community and beyond. This year, learn how we have evolved each of our services, improving our overall response to domestic violence. Hear how we continue to expand our reach and amplify our impact for generations to come and how YOU play a critical role in our ability to do so!

Hear from Jordyn Lawson, Chief Residential Services Officer as we dive into the 40 year history of Genesis and learn why emergency shelter is no longer the most critical resource for victims of abuse.

Hear from a female faith leader, city leaders, a survivor and our Conference on Crimes Against Women as we discuss how we all have a critical role to play in ending violence against women. No matter who you are, where you live or where you work, we can all create safe spaces for the 1 in 3 women in our lives who will experience domestic violence. Learn how!

The next generation

Each year, Genesis serves more than 400 children and teens who have either witnessed or experienced abuse. Even witnessing abuse can cause physiological changes to a child’s brain with lasting cognitive and social implications. Learn how Genesis helps children recover from trauma through therapeutic treatments specifically designed for each child’s needs, all while helping them rebuild the bond with their mother.

What role can you play?

How can you really help someone who is experiencing abuse? How can you keep yourself safe while supporting her? What if she keeps going back to the abuse? What does she experience when she reaches calls our Helpline? Learn how to truly help a friend: what to say, what to do, how to react. Feel more confident knowing you can safely play a role as a beacon of safety and hope in our community.
